How to Choose a Steel Plate Grade
Choosing the wrong grade costs money or safety. Work through structure type, weld amount and service temperature - in that order.
What structure is it?Static buildings can use Q235B/Q355B; cranes and machinery need Q390-Q690; wear parts need NM-series.
How much welding?Heavy welding favours lower carbon equivalent (CEV) and Z-direction grades (Z15/Z25/Z35) for thick joints.
How cold does it get?Service below 0 C needs impact-tested grades - confirm the test temperature on the mill certificate.
